Green Gram Sundal: Classic Indian Snack

Green Gram Sundal; Pasipairru Sundal

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup green gram
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Wash the green gram and soak it in water for at least 3 hours.
  2. Drain the water and pressure cook the green gram with 1 cup of water for 3 whistles.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add the cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and asafoetida.
  4. Saute for a few seconds and then add the cooked green gram.
  5. Add salt to taste and mix well.
  6. Garnish with grated coconut and curry leaves (optional).
  7. Serve hot or warm.
